Nahuel Huapi Lake expedition

After breakfast we will start our private Circuit tour. This circuit is a traditional option that takes only half a day. Generally it is the first excursion one does and thus, the first contact with the landscape of the region. It is approximately 60 kilometers long and it begins and ends in San Carlos de Bariloche, following lake Nahuel Huapi’s waterfront along a paved road called Avenida Ezequiel Bustillo. Lake Nahuel Huapi is the biggest lake of the whole region. It has a surface of 55.700 hectares. All along the way, you will be accompanied by it as well as by the Andean peaks and the opposite shores in the distance.

As we begin this circuit you will notice well-kept gardens and the typical construction style consisting mainly of wood and local stone. Some belong to pioneers and some to institutions such as the nautical club. As we go along, the landscape offers different aspects of the lake, the type of forest begins to vary intermingled with cypress and maitén trees and in the summer time these colors are accentuated by the flowers of wild rose, wild berries, Spanish broom and other wild species. At kilometer 17 we will make a stop at the chairlift of Cerro Campanario, which will let us have a magnificent view from 1050 m.a.s.l. As we continue we will reach the entrance to the San Pedro Peninsula and at kilometer 24, we will be at the Llao Llao peninsula. Here our attention will be drawn to the St. Eduard’s Chapel, Puerto Pañuelo and the link grounds of the Llao Llao Hotel strategically located between lakes Moreno and Nahuel Huapi. At this point the landscape is a conjunction of colors and shapes that give the Nahuel Huapi National Park its well-deserved fame. Then come the orchards of the Swiss settlers, the panoramic or lookout point on lake Moreno, and Laguna El Trebol. A few kilometers further the road links again with Avenida Bustillo and we will be heading back to the city of San Carlos de Bariloche.

Sailing the Nahuel Huapi Lake

After beakfast we will be leaving Puerto San Carlos on a boat sailing on the waters of the Blest arm to its tip, where the port is Blest. This trip passes close to the Sentinel island, where the remains of the Perito Moreno. The landscape features along the Blest arm resemble the classic remote fjords of Norway and the Fuegian channels. Puerto Blest area has lush vegetation, caused by excessively wet weather. From there you can continue by bus to perform the additional excursion to Laguna Frías. Then you arrive at Porto Alegre in the far north of the lagoon, where you take a boat to cross it to dock at Puerto Frias. Returning to Puerto Blest, embarks for the crossing to Cascada Los Pitchers. It goes up a wooden staircase along the stream The Pitchers to a height of about 600 meters, since you can admire several waterfalls and cascades of remarkable beauty. Full day tour to Perito Moreno Glacier

We will drive 80km next to Argentino Lake until we reach Los Glaciares National park. It is incredible how different it is the vegetation next to Andes. We will drive following Brazo Rico (arm of Argentino Lake) till we arrive to the whisper turn; there we will find the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier.
We will park in the footbridge area where we will admire the Perito Moreno Glacier and witness the fall of ice blocks from a close distance.
At the beginning of the footbridge area, the guide will give us a brief explanation and show the way. Before reaching the first balcony, you will observe the plate with the statement of World Heritage of Mankind, granted by the UNESCO in 1981; and farther on, two informative stands about glacier processes and the formation of the Perito Moreno in particular.
Every viewpoint offers a new perspective. From the entrance of the footbridge area, there is a distance of 400 meters to the lowest balcony, the closest to the front of the glacier. The intermediate balcony is the best place to appreciate the northern area of the glacier with a good sight of the Canal de los Témpanos and towards the left of this viewpoint is the second balcony, right opposite the glacier.
Even if the largest glaciers in the Park are the Viedma and the Upsala, the Perito Moreno is a large sized glacier located only 200 meters over sea level, which enables to reach its very front easily, not like the other glaciers, which can only be accessed after trekking or sailing.
